Plantar Fasciitis
Sometimes our patients walk in our doors with ankle and foot pain. At Balanced Health Medical, our Hell's Kitchen chiropractor team offers a variety of drug-free services that can help people manage their foot and ankle conditions including plantar fasciitis.
Understanding Plantar Fasciitis With Our Balanced Health Medical Chiropractors
Plantar fasciitis is one of the more common causes of foot pain among our clientele. It occurs when the thick band of tissue underneath the foot (which forms the plantar arch) becomes inflamed due to some sort of inflammation and/or injury. It's often experienced among sedentary people who suddenly begin a new exercise program, (they do "too much too soon"), or anyone who over-trains in physical activity, especially running, jumping, dancing, etc. It may also be more common among people with certain chronic health diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, obesity, and diabetes, or people with altered muscle-length tension relationships (since shortened muscles "upstream" can affect the way load is transmitted through the plantar fascia).
The key symptoms of plantar fasciitis include sharp heel pain, especially first thing upon rising in the morning or upon standing after sitting for a long time. Other common causes of ankle and foot pain we see at our clinic include arthritis (including flare ups of gout and rheumatoid arthritis), stress fractures, Achilles' tendonitis, and shin splints.
